We've Changed Our Name
A Bit of History
Our first full year in business was an amazing year for our company (previously called Hombre Body). What started out as a gut feeling (a hunch, really) that a high quality body wipe would be successful even in a competitive marketplace turned out to be true. By the end of 2017, we had sold thousands of units, received dozens of personal notes and phone calls from happy customers, and closed out the year profitably.
We also learned a ton in that period—about ourselves as business owners, about the direction we wanted to grow, and (most importantly) about our customers—most of whom were women. We spoke to many of you, often directly over the phone, and learned more about who you were, what you cared about, and why you made the decision to buy our product. And we came to the realization that our initial name, Hombre Body, was no longer a strong match for our customer base.
Introducing Alcala San Diego
A few months ago, our co-founder Steven was wandering around the San Diego neighborhood near our HQ when he stumbled upon the Mission San Diego de Alcalá—a beautiful building, built in the late 1700s, and the very first mission established by the Spanish in California.
We had been searching for a fresh, unique name with a strong local connection and boom—we’d found it. Alcala at once very local but also very global, as the word originated in Arabic and can be found all over Spain, including the Puerta de Alcalá in Madrid just steps away where Steven used to live. 🕺🏽
The name has strong connotations of exploration, of history and of adventure. It connected strongly with us, and we hope it will connect strongly with you.
What Else is Changing?
Nothing. The company is still fully owned and operated by two friends working hard to make top quality products that we ourselves would want to use every day. Our products continue to contain the same high quality ingredients as before, and we continue to hold our suppliers to high standards of quality.
